Some nice spray kicked up. I’ve had trouble getting colours to turn out on a mallard under bright light, but this one is okay.

Photo: a majestic seagull in flight
Perhaps its a bit of a stretch of the imagination to call a seagull majestic, but I think this particular shot gives it a sort of imposing presence.
Photo: a beautiful swan with spread wings
I shot quite a lot and captured a few like this. I can’t decide which is best.

Analysis on improved photography lately
Even if I do say so myself, its mostly down to two things.
Firstly, I’ve got a rather good new 55-200mm lens. It really suits my style of photography, and in good lighting it performs superbly.
Secondly, I read on some blog or photography website in the past few weeks, that simply sorting photos using the levels and curves tools gives 90% of the improvement you will get, and its really correct. I don’t normally have the time to fuss around checking the histogram on camera as I want to make sure my subject is properly exposed.
The photo was through the car’s closed sunroof on a recent journey down the A9. Funnily enough, I don’t think I did anything to this photo. It is straight out the camera like that.
Video: I wouldn’t have believed this possible unless I saw it
Just watch. His balance is awesome, and his control of the bike and his body simply insane. He can control his speed just right whether forwards or backwards.

lutino cockatiel in flight, originally uploaded by JimPhotography.

My photostream is starting to clog up with quite a few photos of birdies. Not helped by my new 55-200mm lens
Anyway, this is an old one I’ve not blogged yet. Its the pet bird at home, a hand-reared cockatiel we’ve had for a wee while now.

Sermon: The Worst Sin I have ever committed by Reg Kelly
Link to sermon: The Worst Sin I have ever committed by Reg Kelly
I haven’t heard of Pastor Kelly before, but I found this sermon strong and powerful showing how the commandments all stem back to love. It shows how all sin (and failing\?) stems from a lack of love. Its a sermon I urge you to listen to – don’t be dismayed at its length, there’s good right through it.
It has certainly given me a far better and stronger understanding of love as set before us in the bible. I think it would be beneficial for self-examination.

I was positively weeping.
My first time using red onions, and they were the most tear-inducing onions I’ve ever had! I was making a sort of maccaroni-cheese with cherry tomatos when I noticed the red onions in the fridge. A whole one is probably more than I’d need for the quantity I was making, but I quite liked the flavour. Not having made any white sauce in a while, it had a bit too much flour I think, and as a result was rather thick. I’d thrown everything in the pan, applied heat and whisked vigorously to avoid any being burned.
I realised recently that the maccaroni cheese pies I quite enjoy, despite not seeming too costly at a quid for two, are grossly overpriced based on the ingredients that went into them. When a realisation of such magnitude dawned on me in Sainsburies the other day, I determined to make some form of maccaroni cheese soon.
An odd phrase that title. It doesn’t actually mean weeping thats positive. Peculiar.

The observant among you would notice its not actually maccaroni, but we didn’t actually have any.
