Trawling through Flickr, I found a few photos I really liked.

If backs could kill…

Filed under: Uncategorized — quact @ 12:49 am

I know what it would feel like. I can’t lean forward without a most peculiar and lasting pain across my back. I can fully understand the phrase ‘my back is killing me’, as honestly this forces all other pains I can ever remember into insignificance. Lasting pain is much greater than non-lasting pain. I’d rather be punched in the stomach than have this! I’ve tried walking, which does ease it a bit, and lying flat, which similarly eases the tension a little.

I’d hoped this would force me to sit up straight, but unfortunately I get extremely stiff, and when I then move I find the pain swiftly returns with vengeance.

Oddly, the cause is unknown. Even more peculiarly, one flatmate claimed to have back pain a bit earlier in the week, another claims a bit at present and a uni mate claims to have got a bit today. I seem to be worst hit but haven’t the faintest clue whats causing it. Something contagious anyway, or google yields some results which point to inflammation of the stomach or peptic ulcers or something [well I'm pretty sure its not from some physical injury or pregnancy!].

The only possible physical causes I can think of are my bed (which I slept on all last term fine), or an after-effect of chopping wood for over an hour a day when I was home over the holidays, but it did come a good few days after I got back here.

Kill it, Cook it, Eat it

Filed under: Food, Review — quact @ 6:07 pm

I was watching Kill it, Cook it, Eat it on the BBC iPlayer last night, and quite enjoyed the programs. It was looking at the entire process of hunting from shooting, to gutting/preparing, to cooking with a bunch of people both for and against hunting/meat etc.

I enjoyed seeing how they gutted grouse, wild duck, deer and rabbit. It was an eyeopener as it seemed a lot simpler than I’d imagined it would be.

Oh, and killing rabbits is totally legal, and they showed how to do it by hand :) . I’ve read in a book that hunting with a bow and arrow is illegal in most countries. Is that the case in Britian? What about with slingshots and suchlike? It’d be interesting to know.

Similarly, do you need to worry about miximitosis
